What to look at before buying a used Sony
- Look at the flaw photos around the battery door and ports first; early A7 bodies seal poorly and moisture marks show there
- Read shutter count together with the condition grade; video bodies show low counts but can be hard-used
- In the photos check whether the grip rubber and eyecup are swollen or peeling; replaceable, but know first
- E-mount takes many third-party lenses; compare Sigma and Tamron prices here before paying for native glass
If it is a lens, what to look at
- Start with the backlit photos of the front and rear elements: no fungus, haze or scratches. Ask the shop if they are missing
- Look at the focus ring, zoom ring and mount flange in the photos: rubber that is not loose or swollen and little scuffing on the metal mean light use. For stabilised or motorised lenses, ask the shop before ordering if the listing does not say they were tested
- Make sure the mount matches your camera; it is stated on every product page. A wrong mount needs an adapter or will not fit at all
- Read the box-contents list for front cap, rear cap and hood; some hoods are hard to find and expensive on their own
The same model may be sold by several shops in different grades and at different prices. Open the model page to compare every unit.
About Sony
Sony owns the eye-detect autofocus that locks onto people and animals and simply refuses to let go. Its other superpower is E-mount — the mount third-party makers support most, with Sigma, Tamron, Samyang and Viltrox all building for it, so you can assemble a kit at any budget. Bodies run from the compact A6000 line to full-frame A7s, and used stock turns over constantly — compare the same model across shops on one page.
